Greenwood Village City Councilmember Jerry Presley’s Intern Site
An Intern’s Look at the City of Greenwood Village, Colorado
Each semester, I will appoint two Junior or Senior students from a local High School to serve as my City Council Intern. If you are selected, you will see a unique perspective of municipal government.
If you have been selected, congratulations. It shows that you are a motivated student willing to learn life’s lessons through experiences. I believe experiential learning is the best kind of learning.
Our City Council typically meets on the first and third Monday of each month. Usually, the meetings start at 6 pm with a one hour study session on a topic that will eventually come before the Council. The official Council Meeting typically starts at 7 pm and is adjourned around 10 pm.
The Council receives the “agenda packet” on the Thursday before the Monday meeting and an electronic copy is available to the public on the official GV web site. I will meet with you between 5:30 to 6 pm prior to each study session to answer any questions and ask for your perspective on agenda items.
There are two requirements:
1) An Intern must attend at least five City Council meetings during the semester; and
2) An Intern must read the background material before each City Council meeting, listen to the debate or discussion, write a synopsis of one agenda item at each meeting, report his/her position on the issue stating how he/she would have voted and must publish the report on this blog site.
I want you to have a real-world educational experience which you will be proud to include on your college application or job resume.
Please contact me if you are interested in being appointed as my Intern.
Jerry
