Is Jerry related to Elvis?

In 1958, Elvis was inducted into the Army and received his famous haircut at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, adjacent to Fort Smith, the town where I grew up. From time to time, we would receive calls from people, often young women, asking if Elvis was there. My mom would answer the phone and ask the caller to hold on, then she would yell out, “Jerry, is Elvis here?” “No, mom, he’s not”, I’d yell back. My mom would relay the information to the caller and we would all have a good laugh.  

For the record, I’m not related to the King. My only connection to Elvis is his 6th grade report card.

I get emails from time to time asking about my Elvis shows. Well, there’s another Jerry Presley who IS related to the King, and is a terrific performer in his own right. For about 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of talking to and corresponding with my “cousin” Jerry and we have developed a friendship. 

I’m honored to share the same name but he’s the one who makes music, I just listen to it. He is way more famous and far more talented than I am. The other Jerry Presley performs on a regular basis in Branson, Missouri.
